Dr. Mike Nasamu

Dr. Michael Nasamu is a professional and independent management consultant, researcher, and trainer with over 30 years experience. He specializes in strategic development of commodities in the agricultural value chains. His core competence is on capacity strengthening of actors along the value chains, especially Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Processing Practices (GPP). He currently served as the Regional Consultant to Coalition for African Rice Development (CARD) based in Nairobi Kenya (2014 to date).

His task is backstopping the rice task force teams of Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Gambia, and Sudan in facilitating working weeks to develop strategies in the rice value chain known as National Rice Development Strategies (NRDS) Rice Seed Development Strategies (RSDS) and Mechanization Strategies (MS): Apart from managing his two companies Minaaz Agro Services Ltd and MinaPro Ultra Consulting Ltd set up in 1993 and 2021 respectively, he has consulted for Development Partners such as Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), German International Development (GIZ) through their flagship project known as ‘’Competitive Africa Rice Initiative (CARI)’’, United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Women (UN Women). He has served as the lead consultant to the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD 2022-2023) in capacity building of farmers on Good Agricultural Practices. He is also serving as a local consultant to the Africa Field Innovation Center for Agricultural Technology (AFICAT) based in Tokyo Japan (2022 to date).

A graduate of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi where he obtained a Ph.D. in Agronomy (2021), an M.sc from Friendship University Moscow Russia (1993), and a B.sc from Ahmadu Bello University (1987). He also has various on-line certificate courses, a certificate in the training of trainers (ToT) from COLEACP (2015) based in Belgium, and diploma in project management (2020) o A Certified Management Consultant (CMC- 2023) and a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC- 2023)

He was the lead consultant in the dissemination of a new technology promoted by Japan International Cooperation Agency on rice ‘’Improved Parboiling Technology’’ to strengthen the capacity of about 24,000 small-scale rice processors across Nigeria. The objective was to enhance the quality of locally processed rice, adding value to the processed rice thus improving economic well-being at household level. He also headed the team that worked to strengthen the capacity of quality control managers of Integrated Rice Mills on paddy quality check which has enhanced the quality of paddy rice going into the mills. This has contributed to the formulation of paddy grading standards by the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON). o He possesses a wealth of experience in start-up agri-businesses in field crops production, processing as well as poultry and poultry feed formulation. He has valuable experience in cluster and cooperative formations and profiling.

With a strong private sector working background, and strong working relationships with Ministries of Agriculture in developing countries especially the West Africa subregion where he maintained excellent interpersonal relationships with high government officials and a number of development partners. He is currently the CEO of MinaPro Ultra Consulting Ltd (MUCL). MUCL is an indigenous company registered in Nigeria carrying out agricultural businesses in the entire agricultural ecosystem and promoting the technologies named ‘’System of Rice Intensification (SRI)’’ and ‘’Improved Parboiling Technology’’ (IPT) among farmers and processors respectively, and general consulting services. He is a Senior Advisor-Agronomist with Rice Mills of Nigeria producers of Sunshine Rice. In carrying out his assignments he is widely traveled both in Africa, Europe, and Asia countries. He is married with two (2) children.
